Cryptography protects the digital or virtual currency known as cryptocurrency, making it almost hard to forge or double spend. Based on blockchain technology, which is a distributed ledger maintained by a dispersed network of computers, cryptocurrencies are decentralized networks. Cryptocurrency is a form of decentralized, encrypted money that can be mined, moved between peers, and verified on a public ledger. The first decentralized cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, is still the most well-known and valued. Ethereum, Litecoin, and Ripple are further well-known cryptocurrencies.
